INTERNAL OPS AND REPORTING BOTS

Scheduled jobs that watch things, and one short digest someone actually reads.

Reporting bots fail in two ways and both are quiet. Either they send so much that people filter the channel, or they die and nobody notices for three weeks, because no message is indistinguishable from nothing wrong. Everything I build here assumes both: alerts are deduped and thresholded, and the bot reports a heartbeat so silence itself is treated as a fault.

I run one of these across my own sites — a single monitoring bot checking many endpoints on a schedule, comparing status and response time against thresholds, and speaking only when something crosses a line or the daily summary goes out. One bot watching twenty things costs almost nothing. Twenty separate monitoring subscriptions cost real money and still need somebody to read them.

The reporting half is a query, a schedule and a format decision. Numbers come out of your database or your tools, get written into a short digest with the change since last time, and go to email or a channel at a fixed hour. If a figure in it cannot be traced to a query you could run yourself, it does not belong in the digest.

WHAT I DO

  • Scheduled jobs on your VM — cron or a timer, output to a log file, with the schedule written into the runbook
  • One monitoring bot for many targets: uptime, status codes, response time, SSL expiry, disk space and backup freshness
  • Alert thresholds and deduplication, so one outage produces one message instead of forty
  • Heartbeat reporting — the bot states that it is alive, and a missing heartbeat is itself an alert
  • Daily or weekly digest built from queries against your own data, showing the delta from last period and the query behind each number
  • Backup verification — not just that a backup ran, but that the file exists, has grown, and has been restored at least once
  • Escalation rules: what goes to a channel, what goes to email, and what is allowed to wake somebody up

HOW I WORK

  1. 01

    INVENTORY

I list what needs watching, what each failure actually costs, and which numbers somebody checks by hand today.

  2. 02

    THRESHOLDS

Each check gets a line that matters, agreed with you, so the bot stays silent during normal operation by design.

  3. 03

    BUILD

Checks, digests and the heartbeat go onto a schedule, with every run logged so a flaky check can be proven flaky.

  4. 04

    TUNE

I watch one full cycle with you and cut noise until every message still being sent is worth reading.

BEST FOR

  • Several sites or services where failure is currently discovered by a customer
  • A number somebody pulls by hand every morning and pastes into a message
  • Backups that are assumed to work and have never once been restored
  • Paying per-monitor fees for checks a single scheduled job could do

NOT THIS

  • Not a dashboard product or a data warehouse. If you need to slice years of data interactively, that is a BI tool and I will point you at one instead of rebuilding it
  • Not a 24/7 on-call service. The bot raises the alert; who answers it at 3am is your rota, and I am one person in one timezone
  • Not CRM pipeline reporting — lead stage counts and reply rates belong on the lead-flow automation page, where the data model that produces them lives

THE PROOF

Published case studies from ai orchestration work. Each one names the client and shows what was delivered.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Email or a chat channel, whichever your team genuinely reads, plus a log file on the server. I keep the loud path deliberately narrow: if everything is an alert, the channel gets muted within a fortnight and you are back to hearing about outages from customers.
