THE TAKEAWAYThe grade is the concept. Shot flat the location is a brown quarry; the red is what makes it a place nobody can reach you from.
The official music video for Arittra Nayak's "Pata Nai" — two astronauts stranded on a red planet, standing in for the distance between two people who used to be close.
"Pata Nai" is the second chapter of Arittra Nayak's CZszn mixtape — an alternative indie-pop and R&B track about the bittersweet ache of lost love. NaavikMusik released it in 2023. The brief was not to illustrate the lyric. It was to find a place that felt the way the song sounds.
Why a red planet. The song is about two people who are still in the same frame and no longer reachable. Putting them in spacesuits makes that literal — you can sit beside someone, see them, and still be sealed off behind glass. So the whole film lives in one palette. A rust-red desert, a hazy ridgeline, two helmets catching the only clean highlight in the frame. Nothing cuts away to a performance shot. There is no band, no studio, no city. Once you leave that world the metaphor breaks, so the edit never leaves it.
What I did on it. Visuals. The look, the grade and the edit — taking rodnae.prod's footage and building the single-location world the track needed, then cutting to the song rather than to the picture. The grade is the load-bearing decision. Shot flat, the location is a brown quarry. The red is not a filter laid on top; it is what turns a quarry into somewhere nobody can reach you.
