CUSTOMER PERSONA RESEARCH
Who buys, what triggered them, and the objection that actually stops the sale.
A persona with a stock photo, an age bracket and a line about loving coffee is decoration. It changes no decision. The version worth paying for answers four harder things: what job is this person hiring you to do, what event made them start looking this week, what are they afraid will go wrong, and in what order do they compare the options.
I build that from language, not guesses. Where you can give access, I speak to real customers and read sales and support notes. Where you cannot, I mine reviews, forum threads, video comments and search queries for how buyers in this category describe the problem in their own words. The verbatim quotes matter more than my summary of them.
Behaviour is the other half. I read the findings against indexed research on decision-making and persuasion, so the persona covers what someone is likely to do under uncertainty, not only what they claim to want. That is also where I flag which of your current tactics are manipulative enough to be a compliance problem rather than a clever nudge.

WHAT I DO
- Persona set — two to four buyers, each with the job they are hiring you for, the trigger event, and what they personally risk by choosing wrong.
- Objection ladder — the objections in the order they actually arrive, with the answer and the specific proof each one needs.
- Verbatim bank — real quotes from reviews, threads and interviews, sorted by theme, usable directly as copy source material.
- Ranked decision criteria — what they compare first, second and third, which is rarely the thing you currently lead with.
- Channel and information map — where each persona genuinely looks for answers before they ever contact a seller.
- Anti-persona — who to stop marketing to, and what keeping them in the funnel is costing in time and spend.
- Behavioural notes — the biases likely in play at each stage, plus a flag on any tactic crossing into dark-pattern territory under India’s 2023 guidelines.
HOW I WORK
- 01
SOURCE
Agree which customers I can reach directly and which personas have to be built from public language instead.
- 02
MINE
Pull reviews, threads, comments, support notes and search queries, keeping raw quotes rather than paraphrases.
- 03
PATTERN
Group the language into jobs, triggers, fears and objections, discarding any segment that is only demographics.
- 04
PRESSURE TEST
Walk the personas past whoever takes your sales calls, correct what does not match reality, then hand over.
BEST FOR
- Businesses whose copy is written for the buyer they wish they had rather than the one who signs.
- Teams who hear the same objection on every sales call and still have no written answer to it.
- Brands selling one product to two very different buyers while talking to both identically.
- Companies planning a campaign and unable to say what triggers the purchase.
NOT THIS
- Not quantitative segmentation. No sample sizes, significance testing or survey panels — qualitative work does not get dressed up as statistics.
- Not competitor research. What rivals claim, charge and prove belongs to Market & Competitor Analysis.
- Not a CRM or data project. I do not build the lists or the tracking, only the research that tells you who is on them.
THE PROOF
Published case studies from brand solutions work. Each one names the client and shows what was delivered.
